Losar Tashi Delek

Losar 2010

The Losar celebration at Drol Kar on February 14 was a very warm and happy event. It had a strong family feel to it as Geshe Sonam was joined by his sisters Kaoo and Ani Tsering, and Tenzin. Ani Jampa was also present along with about thirty or so Drol Kar members and friends.
Geshe Sonam addressed the group in the Gompa for about 30 minutes at the morning meditation session. He congratulated the committee and membership for a very successful year. He especially mentioned and thanked those who continually support the centre as volunteers with their time and enthusiasm.
Geshe la thanked Venerable Jampa for her consistent and dedicated efforts with the teaching program. He also mentioned her kind and compassionate support for anyone who comes to her asking for help with Dharma questions and issues of a personal nature. Geshe Sonam encouraged the Drol Kar community to continue to seek benefit from Jampa, not only for the knowledge of Dharma she has and continues to build on, but also for her experience in meditation practice. Venerable Jampa then lead the group through a White Tara meditation practice in the gompa.

After the Gompa program, everyone headed out to the front pathway. Geshe Sonam led us in a traditional flour throwing ceremony to wish everyone a Happy Losar. With the cry of “Losar Tashi Delek”, the blessed flour was vigourously thrown into the air and the crowd dissolved in a cloud of fine white dust and much laughter. Traditionally his ceremony can turn into a flour fight. Ani Tsering was happy to keep this tradition alive and there were a few present who joined her in some spirited exchanges.

The community lunch in the outdoor area was one of our best ever – beautiful food and very cheerful company. Geshe Sonam joined the group for lunch and chatted with some old and new friends. Everyone was given a small sachet of the deep-fried Tibetan biscuit, khapze, (made by Geshe Sonam’s sisters), which is a traditional part of Losar time for Tibetans.
The Iron Tiger Year is well and truly launched.
Happy New Year to all Our Tibetan Friends and Colleagues.
